Metcam, a fabricator of sheet metal components and assemblies for OEMs, today announced it is now offering research and development (R&D) services, including test unit (prototype) fabrication, for major manufacturers. Metcam is currently working with a U.S. based, multinational conglomerate to produce prototype fuel cells, one of the most exciting alternative energy developments of the modern era.

"In spring 2014, we began working with a globally recognized manufacturer on the research and development for a new alternative energy product," said Metcam Vice President Jerry Ward. "We committed early on to advise on best practices and a logical path to production, as well as to devise a method and a plan to meet the anticipated weekly demand for test units."

Initially, Metcam was producing a few units a week, but as the product evaluation progressed, Metcam increased production to 100 units a week. As design changes are made, Metcams expert fabrication team integrates the changes into the production process on the fly.

The project, which began last year, has now accelerated to orders of up to 1,000 prototype units at a time. The company plans to continue using Metcams services throughout the remainder of the R&D phase of the project, which is anticipated to run through 2016, at least.

"We are gratified that such highly respected, quality-conscious organizations trust us to manage this process for them, including integrating their design changes into these units," said Ward. "It is a testimony to the quality and reliability of our production processes―as well as our dedication to strong, well-managed communications―that we are able to perform these services so capably."

BitFlow Introduces 6th Generation Camera Link Frame Grabber: The Axion

BitFlow has offered a Camera Link frame grabbers for almost 15 years. This latest offering, our 6th generation combines the power of CoaXPress with the requirements of Camera Link 2.0. Enabling a single or two camera system to operate at up to 850 MB/S per camera, the Axion-CL family is the best choice for CL frame grabber. Like the Cyton-CXP frame grabber, the Axion-CL leverages features such as the new StreamSync system, a highly optimized DMA engine, and expanded I/O capabilities that provide unprecedented flexibility in routing. There are two options available; Axion 1xE & Axion 2xE. The Axion 1xE is compatible with one base, medium, full or 80-bit camera offering PoCL, Power over Camera Link, on both connectors. The Axion 2xE is compatible with two base, medium, full or 80-bit cameras offering PoCL on both connectors for both cameras. The Axion-CL is a culmination of the continuous improvements and updates BitFlow has made to Camera Link frame grabbers.
