5D Robotics and Partners Receive Several Awards at Robot Rodeo for Intelligent Robots

Robotics software company leading the way in defense and personal robotics

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 27, 2012 -- 5D Robotics, Inc., a robotics software company that integrates human behaviors with leading robotics hardware, won several commendations at the 2012 Robotics Rodeo in Fort Benning, Georgia. The event, sponsored by the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), drew a diverse crowd - from robot geeks and engineers to military leaders and international press - and participants showcased the latest in innovative and unmanned ground systems.

5D Robotics, in partnership with DRS, Mesa Technologies, Segway, AMREL, RE2, MacroUSA, and Bokam, demonstrated that robots that can carry our gear and work alongside us are ready for primetime. The Robot Rodeo awards included: second place dismounted for DRS, adaptive mission payload (7.82 km/hr), third place mounted for Mesa, ACER (8.19 km/hr), and third place portable for MacroUSA, Scorpion (5.52 km/hr).

"We're happy to be providing a single common software package to so many different companies. At Benning, we enabled a wide range of behaviors on robots ranging in size from 5lbs to 5000lbs," said David J. Bruemmer, 5D's vice president for research and development.

Government and military officials are constantly researching ways to take soldiers out of harm's way and have more tasks completed by robots in the field. This has challenged 5D Robotics to push the limits of what's possible for robots. Robots in industrial settings, such as warehouses and factories, are good at doing repetitive tasks very accurately; however, when it comes to personal robot applications the robot needs to negotiate and interpret a huge range of variables while at the same making humans feel comfortable and safe. That's where 5D Robotics Behavior Engine (BE™) comes in. It enables the robot to maneuver in a variety of environments and situations simply by reading data about its surroundings.

About 5D Robotics Inc.

5D Robotics is accelerating productivity between humans and robots. The company's software and services provide real-time, reactive robotic behaviors such as obstacle avoidance, shared control, motion trajectory detection, and dynamic follow that work to dramatically increase the safety, efficiency and simplified control of robots used in the military, transportation and energy industries. 5D Robotics' proprietary, plug-and-play software is easily ported on a variety of robots and can rapidly adapt to a variety of uses, environments and situations. 5D Robotics holds 11 patents and its software applications have been rigorously assessed by the U.S. Army. www.5DRobotics.com.

TM Robotics - Shibaura Machine THE SCARA range

The THE range from Shibaura Machine is an extensive line up of SCARA robots. Available in four arm lengths THE400 (400mm), THE600 (600mm) and the most recent THE800 (800mm) and THE1000 (1000mm), this range is suitable for assembly, handling, inspection and pick and place processes in varied industrial applications. The THE1000 boasts a 20kg payload capacity and an impressive 0.44 second cycle time, providing high speeds for processes with large components. In fact, the range has been recognised for as the price-to-performance leader compared to other SCARA models in its price range due to its impressive speed versus payload capacity.
