SCHUNK SRU-mini-Speed Rotary Unit is a new benchmark in terms of cycle time and frequency

The SRU-mini-Speed is based on the features of the compact and light SCHUNK SRU-mini flat rotary unit

10-09-2013 - The SCHUNK SRU-mini-Speed rotary unit sets benchmarks in high-performance assembly in terms of cycle time and frequency. With 14 module sizes, these rapid modules from SCHUNK, the competence leader for clamping technology and gripping systems provides swivel times from 0.48 s. If lightweight parts are handled with the unit, more than 4,000 cycles per hours can be executed. This is more than twice as many as are achieved with a conventional design module. Module size 10 achieves swivel times of 0.27 s, and up to 3,600 cycles per hour are possible. As an alternative to higher speeds and number of cycles, higher load capacities can be implemented with an unchanged installation space. The secret of such a high, process-reliable performance is a patented damping design, where an elastomer has been combined with an oil-damped shock absorber. This unique damping has already been successfully implemented in the larger rotary modules of the SRU-plus series.

The SRU-mini-Speed is based on the features of the compact and light SCHUNK SRU-mini flat rotary unit, which has been proven for many years in assembly and packaging applications. Since the dimensions and connections of the hard or softly damped SRU-mini unit are consistent, already existing modules can be exchanged 1:1, which provides highest flexibility for system integrators. Altogether three damping versions are available: the hard damped SCHUNK SRU-mini-H for minimum interfering contours in case of extremely high payloads, the soft damped SCHUNK SRU-mini-W for shorter cycle times at minimum spaces, and the high-performance damped SCHUNK SRU-mini-S for high cycle times per hour, and particularly compact plants. The latter establishes the basis for the design of assembly plants, where the performance can be compared with that of cam-controlled rotary indexing tables, but offers a considerably higher flexibility. The SRU-mini-Speed is available in module sizes 10 and 14 with torques of 0.28 Nm or 1.15 Nm, and axial forces of 255 N or 330 N.

Schmalz Technology Development - The Right Gripper for Every Task

In order to interact with their environment and perform the tasks, lightweight robots, like all industrial robots, depend on tools - and in many cases these are vacuum grippers. These form the interface to the workpiece and are therefore a decisive part of the overall system. With their help, the robots can pick up, move, position, process, sort, stack and deposit a wide variety of goods and components. Vacuum gripping systems allow particularly gentle handling of workpieces, a compact and space-saving system design and gripping from above. Precisely because the object does not have to be gripped, the vacuum suction cupenables gapless positioning next to each other.
