Bombardier Engineer Wins SAE International Thomas H. Speller Award
Daniel Grenier, Specialist Automated Assembly with Bombardier Aerospace, has won the SAE International Thomas H. Speller Award. He accepted the award during the SAE 2013 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition, held recently in Montreal, Canada.

Daniel Grenier, Specialist Automated Assembly with Bombardier Aerospace, has won the SAE International Thomas H. Speller Award. He accepted the award during the SAE 2013 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition, held recently in Montreal, Canada.
Established in 1983, the award recognizes unusual achievements of an individual who, through dedicated service, tireless efforts, high ideals, and vision, contributed significantly to the implementation of manufacturing processes and methodologies in the dedicated discipline of automated fastening machines and their applications.
Mr. Grenier has been with Bombardier Aerospace for more than 33 years as a specialist in automated assembly for the manufacturing engineering and innovation group. During his career, he has been responsible for several projects in automation or tool design, and has been a project manager for the acquisition of new automated fastening machines and was part of the JCDP (Joint Conceptual Definition Phase) teams for the CRJ, Global Express and CSeries aircraft programs. He also has participated in the operationalization of subcontracts for aircrafts like the A330 and A340, and the Boeings 767 and 747.
In the early 1990s, Mr. Grenier was responsible for the acquisition and implementation of the first CNC riveting machine at Bombardier factories in Montreal. He participated in several research and development projects, such as cell electromagnetic riveting, robot with riveting effector and robots positioner coupled with an automated fastening machine.
Mr. Grenier has been a member of SAE International for several years, during which he has presented and published several technical papers. He has received several technical trainings in project management, process control SPC statistic, SIX SIGMA agent, Achieving Excellence Systems, Bombardier manufacturing system and Bombardier quality control. In addition, Mr. Grenier has been involved in the evolution of automation in structural assembly of aircraft at Bombardier.
