Deadline Is Here for 2001 Congressional Mandate to DoD: Have 1/3 of Operational Ground Combat Vehicles Unmanned by 2015
Utah Company Kairos Autonomi Has Worked Since 2006 To Answer The Call
Salt Lake City, UT June 25, 2015
Kairos Autonomi, the worldwide leader in robotic appliqué kits, was established in 2006 with the central goal of helping industry meet the congressional mandate before the 2015 deadline.
In order to remove warfighters from dangerous tasks, back in 2001 Congress mandated that 1/3 of all operational ground combat vehicles be unmanned by 2015. (See PUBLIC LAW 106-398—OCT. 30, 2000, NATIONAL DEFENSE AUTHORIZATION ACT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2001 SEC. 220 at http://www.gpo.gov). It wasnt a passing fad as the request was refreshed in 2006 and 2008 in subsequent mandates. A congressional report was required in 2006 on the progress being made to achieve the goal, and an "assessment of progress" report was required in 2008.
Excerpts of all of these mandates can be viewed at http://www.kairosautonomi.com/one-third-unmanned-by-2015.php.
"The technology for unmanned ground vehicles exists today," says Troy Takach, Kairos Autonomi CEO. "What we at Kairos would like to do is to start a conversation, now the deadline is upon us, as to where the industry is with regards to these mandates and what should be done about them."
