UltraFlex demonstrates the time-efficient, consistent-result induction brazing for brass pipes
This quick induction brazing process resulted in strong, durable and clean joints. Thanks to the selective and precise heat zone, there was less part distortion and joint stress compared to welding. If used on the production line, induction brazing would ensure fast heating cycles and consistent results, without the need for batch processing.
The high efficiency of induction brazing compared to torch-based brazing has been demonstrated by UltraFlex Power Technologies. A leading manufacturer of advanced, digitally controlled induction heating equipment, UltraFlex frequently sets up test applications per customer request aiming at proving the efficiency of induction heating technology for diverse manufacturing needs.
In this test scenario, a brass pipe had to be brazed to a wider part and a brass tip within less than 1 minute total, at target temperature of 1400° F (760° C). UltraFlex induction heating equipment from the UltraHeat W series had been considered most appropriate for this induction heating scenario. UltraHeat W are advanced, cost-effective 5-15 kW induction heating systems utilizing the latest switching power supply technology. They are reliable and easy to maintain and service.
The brazing process for either of the assemblies started by putting a brazing alloy ring between them, followed by placing the assembly in the custom 2-turn induction coil and applying the power of induction heating. The brazing for the pipe to the wider part was accomplished within mere 38 seconds while the brazing for the tipping part was completed within only 17 seconds.
This quick induction brazing process resulted in strong, durable and clean joints. Thanks to the selective and precise heat zone, there was less part distortion and joint stress compared to welding. If used on the production line, induction brazing would ensure fast heating cycles and consistent results, without the need for batch processing. Finally, induction brazing would be safer for the environment compared to flame-based brazing due to the lack of smoke, waste heat and noxious emissions.
