ABB to showcase a selection of advanced robotic technologies for omnichannel commerce at MODEX 2022

• ABB’s robotic innovations are designed to serve the flexible distribution needs of consumer products companies in all application areas where products need to be packed, moved and delivered. • ABB’s recent acquisition of ASTI Mobile Robotics expanded its robotics and automation offering, making it the only company to offer a complete portfolio for the next generation of flexible automation.

ABB offers a wide-ranging robotic automation portfolio designed for use in distribution center, logistics and warehouse operations - from collaborative and automated mobile robots (AMRs), to artificial intelligence (AI) enabled product handling and custom order fulfilment systems. ABB's robotic innovations are designed to serve the flexible distribution needs of consumer products companies in all application areas where products need to be packed, moved and delivered.

ABB's recent acquisition of ASTI Mobile Robotics expanded its robotics and automation offering, making it the only company to offer a complete portfolio for the next generation of flexible automation. At MODEX 2022, March 28-31 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta (Booth #B4004), ABB will showcase a selection of its most advanced robotic technology for omnichannel commerce, highlighted by the EBOT 350 from ASTI's Platform Line of AMRs.

Highlights of the ABB MODEX 2022 exhibit include:
• ASTI Mobile Robotics - EBOT 350: ASTI's industry-leading AMR portfolio includes autonomous towing vehicles, goods-to-person solutions, unit carriers and box movers as well as a comprehensive software offering, ranging from vehicle navigation and control, fleet and order management and cloud-based traceability systems.
The demo features the EBOT 350 from ASTI's Platform Line of AMRs. The EBOT 350 is the perfect solution for Goods to Person (G2P) processes in e-commerce, logistics, automotive or manufacturing sectors. It can also perform hundreds of applications related to warehouse management, order picking and kitting. The EBOT 350 features a 350 kg maximum payload, 120 mm stroke lifting height and a speed range up to 2.2 m/s.
• Integrated AI Robotic Solutions: the ABB IRB 1300 and Covariant: The growing demand for e-commerce fulfilment services and the complex, labor-intensive nature of the process offers unique potential for intelligent automation. While robots are ideally suited to repetitive tasks, until now they lacked the intelligence to identify and handle tens of thousands of constantly changing products in a typical dynamic warehouse operation.
The Covariant Brain is a universal AI that allows robots to see, reason and act in the world around them, allowing them to adapt to new tasks on their own through trial and error - constantly broadening the range of objects they can pick. Combining the IRB 1300 with AI provides robust and smart options for customers in the ecommerce and logistics sectors. The compact IRB 1300 has a footprint that is 83% smaller and cycle times that are 27% shorter - allowing deployment in confined spaces and increasing productivity.

• GoFa - the higher payload collaborative Robot: ABB's new 6-axis GoFa™ CRB 15000 supports the growing demand for a collaborative robot capable of handling heavier payloads to enhance productivity and flexibility. GoFa incorporates a range of features that allow it to be used directly alongside human workers without the space and expense associated with physical barriers. Enabling a robot and human to continuously share the same workspace and cooperate on the same tasks, without jeopardizing safety, allows for maximum flexibility and efficiency.

Users can easily program GoFa via lead-through programming, arm-side interface and ABB's new Wizard easy programming software. Based on simple graphical blocks, Wizard makes it easy for non-specialists to program their applications. Leading product design experts recently recognized GoFa with the prestigious Red Dot award for its innovative design that make robots more approachable to first time robot users.

• Flexible Omnichannel Order Fulfillment: A digital simulation of a high-speed, high-variation robotic sorting and on-demand order picking system that provides manufacturers the ability to quickly tailor package combinations to meet customer preferences. The concept is targeted to consumer products companies requiring high volume sortation along with a need for flexible recipe requirements.

The growth of omnichannel retailing means distribution centers and logistics warehouses need to transform their systems to handle both pallets and packaging destined for retail shelves -while also picking and packing highly varied items for shipping direct to individual consumers. Consumer goods manufacturers need the right infrastructure for maximum flexibility that can pick and handle a wide variety of goods in the widest range of combinations and in the shortest possible time.
