Major European robotics event sheds light on AI, the green transition and the future labour market

Three of today's highly topical themes will be on top of the agenda at the R-24 robot event in March. The European robotics industry will gather in the Danish city of Odense, which has developed into one of the world's leading robot cities.


The combination of the green transition, a shortage of skilled labour and emerging technologies such as AI and advanced robotics are currently transforming the global labour market.

But where is the labour market and especially the manufacturing industry heading? And how can AI, robots and other advanced automation technologies ease the global shortage of skilled labour and contribute to the green transition?

These are some of the highly topical questions that one of 2024's major European robotics events, R-24, will attempt to answer during the three days in March where the event takes place. Among other things, through an extensive conference programme with keynote speakers and introductory speakers from all over the world, which has now been announced.

"Everyone agrees that both our labour market and our daily lives are being transformed by the climate crisis and some completely groundbreaking technologies. But few people know where we are headed. At R-24, we will try to provide some answers by bringing together the best minds from both the industry and the research landscape," says Michael Helm, Project Manager at R-24.

First keynote speaker confirmed
The headlines for the R-24 conference programme include topics such as AI, the future labour market, the green transition, cybersecurity and new software platforms.

One of the conference programme's confirmed keynote speakers is Ryan Gariepy, founder of the Canadian companies Clearpath Robotics and OTTO Motors. In addition, Ryan Gariepy is known as one of the first researchers to publicly address the dangers of so-called killer robots, i.e. AI-based weapon systems.

In his presentation, he will discuss how AI is pushing the boundaries of what robots, drones and other advanced automation technologies are capable of and the consequences it involves for both organisations and people.

Important to show a way forward
Other confirmed speakers include Jennifer M. Apicella from the Pittsburgh Robotics Network and the Danish pump manufacturer Grundfos who will talk about the group's work on future sustainable production via robots.

The visitors can additionally look forward to a number of inspiring case studies from companies that have successfully implemented new technologies and grown their business. There will be several presentations focused on end users in manufacturing, agriculture and horticulture, construction and health.

"It is important to us that we, as a major European robotics event, show a way forward and present constructive solutions and case studies that can inspire others. The emergence of AI, robots and drones obviously presents some dilemmas and issues, but these technologies also hold enormous potential if used correctly," says Michael Helm.

A world-leading robotics hub
R-24 will take place on 13-15 March 2024. For the third time, Odense Congress Center will host what has become one of the largest robotics events in Europe. Its predecessor, R-22, attracted more than 5,000 visitors from all over the world.

The event takes place in Odense, which has developed into one of the world's leading robotics hubs with an ecosystem of more than 160 companies and organisations within robotics and drones - including robotics pioneers such as Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots (MIR).

In total, the robotics industry in Odense employs around 3,600 people.
