Orbbec Depth+RGB cameras are now available for AMD Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kits

Orbbec’s range of industry-leading depth cameras combined with the AMD Kria™ KR260 Robotics Starter Kit offer high performance adaptive I/O and computing capabilities with ROS 2 support and will provide a powerful set of tools for autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and robotics developers.

Troy, MI, October 21st, 2024: Orbbec, a leading camera design and manufacturing company dedicated to 3D vision systems, today announced the availability of the Orbbec 3D cameras with the AMD Kria™ KR260 Robotic Starter Kits, the development platform for production AMD Kria K26 SOMs.

Orbbec's range of depth cameras offer performance and value spanning structured light, stereo vision and TOF technologies for robotic applications:
● The Orbbec Gemini 330 series cameras combine active and passive stereo vision for seamless operations in indoor and outdoor conditions. With the built-in custom ASIC MX6800 and high-performance optical system, the cameras can process images and stream accurate Depth+RGB data.
● The Orbbec Femto Bolt and Femto Mega are industry's highest resolution TOF cameras with a wide field of view and built-in 4K RGB and IMU.
● The Orbbec Astra series of structured light cameras have built-depth processing.

The Kria K26 SOM is powered by a custom-built AMD Zynq™ UltraScale+™ MPSoC device , which features a quad-core Arm® Cortex® A53 processor, more than 250,000 logic cells as part of the programmable logic, a H.264/265 video codec, and much more. With flexible I/O options and powerful compute, it is designed to support data streams from multiple cameras and sensors. Orbbec SDK, drivers, and a rich set of APIs for Ubuntu and ROS 2 make it easy to integrate with the wide range of cameras.

"We are excited to collaborate with AMD to enable depth perception capabilities required for accurate, safe, and controlled operations in robotics applications," said Amit Banerjee, Head of Partnerships at Orbbec. "The powerful combination of Orbbec depth vision systems and AMD FPGAs, CPUs, GPUs and adaptive SOM and SoC options will ensure robotic innovations operate in production."

"AMD is developing perception applications for the Kria KR260 starter kit using Orbbec's Depth+RGB cameras for AMR and other robotics use cases," said KV Thanjavur Bhaaskar, Robotics Lead, Adaptive and Embedded Computing Group, AMD. "We look forward to showcasing the technology in action with a live product demonstration in the AMD booth (#4) at next week's ROSCon 2024."

"Open Navigation's reference design covers a long-duration indoor pick and place application, outdoor natural environment GPS-based waypoint navigation, and is capable of navigation on urban roadways with 3D SLAM", says Steve Macenski, Owner, Open Navigation. "This system, developed using Orbbec's Gemini 335L stereo vision camera and AMD's AI compute technology, can be seen at the AMD booth at ROSCon."

The AMD Kria KR260 Robotics Starter Kit is a scalable robotics development platform in the AMD Kria portfolio of adaptive system-on-modules (SOMs) and developer kits. The Kria KR260 offers a seamless path to production deployment with the existing AMD Kria K26 SOMs. It includes native ROS 2 support, a standard framework for robotics application development, and pre-built interfaces for robotics and industrial solutions.

The Orbbec cameras readily integrated with the AMD Kria KR260 Starter Kit are available at Kria™ SOMs and from Orbbec at https://www.orbbec.com/products/

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!

This compact 3D camera series combines a very short working distance, a large field of view and a high depth of field - perfect for bin picking applications. With its ability to capture multiple objects over a large area, it can help robots empty containers more efficiently. Now available from IDS Imaging Development Systems. In the color version of the Ensenso B, the stereo system is equipped with two RGB image sensors. This saves additional sensors and reduces installation space and hardware costs. Now, you can also choose your model to be equipped with two 5 MP mono sensors, achieving impressively high spatial precision. With enhanced sharpness and accuracy, you can tackle applications where absolute precision is essential. The great strength of the Ensenso B lies in the very precise detection of objects at close range. It offers a wide field of view and an impressively high depth of field. This means that the area in which an object is in focus is unusually large. At a distance of 30 centimetres between the camera and the object, the Z-accuracy is approx. 0.1 millimetres. The maximum working distance is 2 meters. This 3D camera series complies with protection class IP65/67 and is ideal for use in industrial environments.
