Gather AI Leverages New ModalAI® Starling 2 Logis Drones for Greater Warehouse and Inventory Data Capabilities
Addition of US-based drones will double inventory scanning speed, enhance accuracy with 3D data, and expand offerings for increased efficiency
Today inventory intelligence solution Gather AI announces it will augment its DJI drones with new US-made Starling 2 Logis drones powered by ModalAI's VOXL 2 autopilot for customer warehouse inventory data gathering. This addition, available in Q2 2025, will help warehouse operation and innovation teams maximize the Gather AI software solution for even more efficient counts and application flexibility.
Gather AI computer vision technology enables drones to fly autonomously through warehouses with no GPS, WiFi, or infrastructure changes needed. The machine learning algorithm analyzes inventory pictures and reads and interprets far beyond the barcode including lot codes, text, expiration dates, case counts, and occupancy information. Warehouse operators can compare their real-time physical inventory with the warehouse management system (WMS) data, to make any changes necessary for maximum accuracy. The solution is most commonly used across third-party logistics (3PL), retail distribution, manufacturing, and food & beverage to date, but it can be applied to any warehouse with racking. Key benefits of Starling 2 Logis drones:
Scan 25x faster than manual methods.
Increase the inventory scanning speed from an average 900 pallets per hour up to 1,500 pallets per hour.
Improve inventory accuracy to 99.9%.
Fly in narrower aisles. DJI drones can fly in very narrow aisles (typically as narrow as 5 feet 4 inches wide), but Starling 2 Logis drones can fly in aisles as narrow as 4 feet 5 inches wide.
Experience new dynamic obstacle avoidance capabilities.
See richer inferred case counting and location occupancy estimation capabilities, thanks to image and depth data access, especially in double deep racking contexts.
"Our hardware-agnostic AI and computer vision stack empowers logistics and supply chain customers with unparalleled flexibility and access to cutting-edge solutions," said Gather AI CEO & Co-Founder, Sankalp Arora, Ph.D. "Our inherent ability to upgrade to better hardware has enabled us to launch a more capable and efficient inventory intelligence device, which is completely made in the USA. You will see Gather AI's AI stack support more forms of hardware as we pursue pervasive digitization of warehouse workflows."
"ModalAI is proud to partner with Gather AI on the development of the Starling 2 Logis," said ModalAI CEO & Co-Founder, Chad Sweet. "Gather AI's rapid time to market is another win for ModalAI and our mission to help developers accelerate their path to autonomy with our US-made VOXL 2 autopilot, ready-to-fly development drones, and open software."

Schmalz Technology Development - The Right Gripper for Every Task
In order to interact with their environment and perform the tasks, lightweight robots, like all industrial robots, depend on tools - and in many cases these are vacuum grippers. These form the interface to the workpiece and are therefore a decisive part of the overall system. With their help, the robots can pick up, move, position, process, sort, stack and deposit a wide variety of goods and components. Vacuum gripping systems allow particularly gentle handling of workpieces, a compact and space-saving system design and gripping from above. Precisely because the object does not have to be gripped, the vacuum suction cupenables gapless positioning next to each other.
