agreement enables Intuitive Surgical to license Gyrus ACMI's proprietary PK(TM) Technology for development of the Intuitive Endowrist(R) PK Dissecting Forceps to be used with the da Vinci(R) Surgical System.
The Endowrist PK Dissecting Forceps will provide da Vinci(R) Surgical System users greater tissue management capabilities utilizing the unique traits of PK Technology for a variety of robotically assisted surgical procedures.
The da Vinci Surgical System is used in several major institutions worldwide in advanced or complex surgical procedures. As a result of this collaboration surgeons will be able to achieve a similar tissue effect in both robotics and manual laparoscopic surgery.
Gyrus believes this partnership will further reflect the position that PK Technology is rapidly establishing itself as the RF energy of choice in hospitals worldwide where laparoscopic surgery is performed both robotically and manually.
In a joint statement Tom Murphy Gyrus ACMI Executive Vice President and Aleks Cukic, Intuitive Surgical Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning said: "We are delighted to work together to provide our customers with an innovative new product that extends the benefits of Intuitive's da Vinci Surgical System and Gyrus ACMI's PK Technology tissue management system."
