Sensors Unlimited - UTC Aerospace Systems' Grand Opening

Sensors Unlimited - UTC Aerospace Systems announced the grand opening of their state-of-the-art facility in Princeton, NJ on Wednesday, Sept. 17th, 2014.

UTC Aerospace Systems announces the opening of a new facility in Princeton, New Jersey for its Sensors Unlimited business, which develops innovative sensing and imaging solutions in shortwave infrared (SWIR) technology. The more than 90,000 square foot facility houses a new, custom-built, state-of-the-art wafer fabrication area, along with packaging, assembly, and test labs. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corporation (NYSE: UTX).

The facility focuses on the research and development of SWIR cameras, which create visibility beyond what the naked eye can see. The technology allows users to see in daylight and low light, through dust, haze and smoke. This is a key advantage in military and law enforcement applications. The imaging technology also has broad application across commercial and industrial segments.

Previously located at a smaller site in Princeton, the new site now accommodates more than one hundred employees, including 50 engineers. With room for future expansion, the facility demonstrates the commitment of UTC Aerospace Systems to attract and keep high-wage, high value-added technology jobs in the Princeton area.

John Trezza, general manager of the Force Protection business which includes Sensors Unlimited, stated, "We created this state-of-the-art facility to attract the best and the brightest engineers in this field. The research and development were doing here has immediate real-world applications - from supporting military missions to detecting manufacturing defects. Weve been at the forefront of the sensing and imaging field for two decades, and look forward to continuing to innovate here in Princeton."

Based in Princeton, New Jersey, Sensors Unlimited designs, develops, fabricates, and services a range of SWIR area and linescan cameras and systems, focal plane arrays, and lenses and accessories.

Schmalz Technology Development - The Right Gripper for Every Task

In order to interact with their environment and perform the tasks, lightweight robots, like all industrial robots, depend on tools - and in many cases these are vacuum grippers. These form the interface to the workpiece and are therefore a decisive part of the overall system. With their help, the robots can pick up, move, position, process, sort, stack and deposit a wide variety of goods and components. Vacuum gripping systems allow particularly gentle handling of workpieces, a compact and space-saving system design and gripping from above. Precisely because the object does not have to be gripped, the vacuum suction cupenables gapless positioning next to each other.
