MVTec Software GmbH demonstrates technology leadership at VISION 2022

• Trade fair presence in the context of the company’s 25th anniversary • Presentation of the new versions of HALCON and MERLIC • MVTec offers diverse program of demos, talks, and events

Munich, August 24, 2022 - MVTec Software GmbH (www.mvtec.com), a leading international provider of machine vision software, will demonstrate its technological pioneering role with its appearance at VISION 2022 in Stuttgart, a leading trade fair for machine vision. From October 4 to 6, 2022, at booth C56 in hall 8, MVTec will present the latest versions of its machine vision software products HALCON and MERLIC. Both will be released this fall. In addition, MVTec will enrich the show with a diverse program. This includes live demonstrations, a trade show tour, an evening event, expert talks at the MVTec booth, and presentations at the accompanying Industrial Vision Days. "Our appearance at VISION this year is all about MVTec's 25th anniversary. Then and now, we are committed to providing customers with the best possible machine vision software for a wide range of applications. As an important international industry gathering, VISION offers the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our technological expertise in machine vision," Dr. Olaf Munkelt, Managing Director of MVTec Software GmbH, describes the trade show presence.

Live demos show HALCON and MERLIC in action
Regarding the new software versions demonstrated at VISION, Dr. Maximilian Lückenhaus, Director Marketing & Business Development at MVTec, explains: "With the ‘AnyPicker' in HALCON and the integration of our novel deep learning technology ‘Global Context Anomaly Detection' into our easy-to-use software MERLIC, we underline our technological pioneering role. This is one of the reasons why users from a wide range of industries, such as the semiconductor industry or agriculture, benefit from the many advantages of our software products."
MVTec experts show in thrilling live demos how the technologies support machine vision applications in practice. For instance, the deep-learning-based bin-picking application AnyPicker will be presented at the booth. Thereby, a robotic system picks up arbitrary objects with unknown shapes with the help of MVTec HALCON. The application combines 3D vision and deep learning for the first time with the aim of robustly detecting gripping surfaces. In contrast to typical bin-picking applications, there is no need to teach object surfaces - no prior knowledge about the respective objects is required. This enables typical applications, for instance in logistics, to be implemented in a shorter time and thus far more cost-efficiently.

In another live demonstration, MVTec shows how the easy-to-use machine vision software MERLIC inspects electronic components on printed circuit boards using the new Global Context Anomaly Detection technology. In this process, logical anomalies are detected - i.e., both local, minor defects such as scratches as well as large-scale logical errors such as misplaced labels. The technology introduced in the new MERLIC 5.2 release can be used for completeness checks and defect detection as part of quality control.

Diverse supporting program enriches trade show experience
As a major player in the machine vision industry, MVTec will be participating in several presentations and initiating numerous exchange formats itself that will enrich the VISION 2022 program. The company among others organizes a trade show tour for all interested persons and leads to the booths of several MVTec partners. The partners on site will explain the practical applications exhibited at their booths. In addition, MVTec experts will give two presentations at the MVTec booth, on the trendy topics Embedded Vision and Deep Learning. The first presentation will be about the development of an embedded vision application with HALCON using Microsoft .NET and the HDevEngine. The second shows how easy it is to analyze logical and structural anomalies with MERLIC. The data is conveniently trained in the MVTec Deep Learning Tool and then seamlessly integrated into MERLIC.
There are also two presentations by MVTec experts on the agenda of the Industrial Vision Days: Christian Eckstein will speak on the topic of 'Deep Learning & AI combined with traditional methods facilitate automation'. Ricardo Juarez Acuna will be part of a presentation on 'Building Machine Vision with Standardized Behavior and Interfaces' as part of the 'VDMA OPC Machine Vision Initiative'.

Finally, an evening event organized by MVTec rounds off the trade fair program: On Wednesday, October 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. in hall 8, MVTec invites customers, partners, and interested parties to a casual networking get-together with snacks and drinks. The participants will celebrate the 25th anniversary of MVTec together and end the trade show day in a relaxed atmosphere.
