Comau presents MATE, its new wearable exoskeleton, for the first time in Brazil at EXPOMAN 2018

During the exhibition, Comau will also showcase and present its latest innovations in the robotics and specialized services field.

Belo Horizonte, October 15, 2018 - Comau, worldwide leader in industrial automation, is officially presenting its latest innovations to the Brazilian market during the annual Congress on Asset Management and Maintenance and Exhibition of Products, Services and Equipment, held at the Actuall Convention Hotel in Belo Horizonte from October 15 to 19. The initiative was taken by ABRAMAN - The Brazilian Association on Maintenance and Facility Management. At the venue, Comau is presenting its first lightweight, passive, portable upper-limb exoskeleton for the first time in the country.

With the slogan Fit for Workers, the MATE exoskeleton uses an advanced spring-based passive structure to support workers during their tasks. MATE delivers lightweight, breathable and highly effective postural support without the need for batteries, motors or other failure-prone devices. It is also compact and ergonomically designed thanks to the partnership between Comau, ÖSSUR, a leading non-invasive orthopedics company, and IUVO, a spin-off company of The BioRobotics Institute (Scuola Superiore SantAnna) specialized in wearable technologies. MATE is fully able to replicate any movement of the shoulder while adhering to the body like a second skin.
At EXPOMAN, visitors will have the chance to wear and test MATE, so that they can have a real feel of how this technology works in practice. Comau will also showcase its autonomous mobile robot, Agile1500; the educational robot based on open-source hardware and software, e.DO; and the fast Racer3 robot performing pick & place operations, based on a pneumatic system with laser scanning, slide, and a racking.
Additionally, during the event, spokesmen, consultants, and professionals from all industries will promote seminars, workshops, roundtables and present case studies. In one of the round tables, Comaus Digital Initiatives Platform Manager in Brazil - Leandro Escobar - will consider IoT, digital solutions, and reconfiguring manufacturing processes. In addition, Denilson Borges, Comau Service Sales in Brazil, will lead a workshop about maintenance, focusing on productivity.
For Laerte Scarpitta, COO of LATAM region, taking part in this event is a way to confirm Comaus path to Industry 4.0, dubbed HUMANufacturing; its a concept in which people perform together with cutting-edge, always connected, enabling technologies and smart industrial robotics within a networked production system. "Our strong focus on innovation is driving us to the development of new products based on easy-to-use, collaborative, safe and smart technologies and processes methodology, such as the brand new wearable exoskeleton MATE. Its our way to provide greater added value and measurable benefits to customers in automotive, agribusiness, cosmetics, food and beverage, mining, petrochemical, steel, and many other sectors." In the same sense, Manuel Borges, Service Operations Director in Brazil, says, "Expoman represents an opportunity to exchange experiences, promote best practices, benchmark, and learn from real case examples. Most importantly, it helps Comau to improve service efficiency and work excellence."
